First Lost Tooth & Shiner

And just like that, it's gone!

Isaac said he "chomped on it hard" with his top tooth and it was bleeding just a little. He was excited to say that it could now go up and I knew it was just waiting to come out. It turned my stomach just a little to grab a paper towel and help him out, but he wasn't scared at all.

I don't think Isaac has ever been so proud of himself and the determination that he is now on his way to being a big kid.

Oh, and his Kindergarten eval is on Thursday.

Where did my little newborn go?

While we're at it, Ezra also had a first milestone.

Our neighbor friend was over and the boys were all in Isaac's top bunk. Ezra got his first shiner banging his face on the footboard of the bunk. I'm not sure how it happened, but Ezra's really good at placing blame and he didn't mention anyone.

Thankfully I don't think he'll end up with a scar like Isaac did from his first black eye, doing essentially the same thing.

First Loose Tooth

When Isaac and Ezra went to the dentist for the first time just in November, the dentist prepared us to expect Isaac to lose his first tooth within three months. Sure enough, Isaac just walked up to me and said "Mama, I've been doing this all morning," as he showed me how he wiggled his tooth forwards and backwards.

I'm.not.ready.

How did my little guy get this big?

Making our House a Home

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

The memories are coming, but it's been a slow go at making our new house feel like home, since the majority of our space saving furniture from before doesn't exactly fit. Two of the main pieces I felt that were necessary before trying to even imagine what the walls will look like was: an entertainment unit and an entry table.

The ceiling in our main level living room is vaulted, so in my very amateur interior design opinion, I figured I needed to go big or go home.

I was really inspired by Sarah's recent home renovations and thought her IKEA TV unit would fit perfectly.

It turned into quite the ordeal, with two trips to Bloomington, but I finally made it home victorious! I put together three of the pieces and helped Tony with two of the 5 and am happy to say that our marriage didn't hurt for the infamous IKEA assembly. ;)

I'm so excited for this piece and how I can now start to plan the space.

Miri also seems to be a fan, with more ledges to walk along!

Finding our footing.

I know it's only Tuesday, but this week feels good. I've been trying to recall all that I learned while I was on maternity leave last year.

One thing that was major for me was having a decent schedule in place. Unfortunately the weather has done anything but make me want to leave the house, so as of yet that hadn't happened.

Two things to start my week out right were to focus on cleaning the house on Monday and going grocery shopping on Tuesday. Grocery shopping isn't happening today, but thankfully we have enough goods to last us a few more days, even though I normally buy for the week.

Yesterday I was able to give us a solid foundation for the week with vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning the bathrooms and getting some loads of laundry done.

Yes, it honestly is that simple for me, but to be brutally honest, these simple chores have been all but forgotten in the life that was before.

I love being able to find balance, one slight adjustment at a time.

Face Plant

Monday, January 6, 2014

You've all seen the videos of the awesome guy who tries to jump onto an already moving treadmill, right? It doesn't end well.

I've been trying to summarize what it feels like to be 6 days into the new year and over two weeks removed from corporate job and that's essentially it.

It's like I've been on the treadmill, maxed it out and then decided to pause to adjust my sock, fully expected to hop back on, but I've completely lost my stride.

The day after Christmas, we all got sick . . . but Miri ended up with RSV. It's been pretty interesting since. After a few nights of trying to treat Miri with the vaporizer and not much change, I text my friend Mandi to see what options I had for essential oils to treat her. I was floored when she was perking up, congestion clearing and coughing lessening within minutes of use.

It has been a little tricky with the awful weather as well. The boys are used to being able to play with friends if they're cooped up inside and I just don't fit the bill as much as they'd like!

I may be face planting now, but it doesn't mean I won't pick myself up and get into the right groove .

We just need a little time.
