Sorta Paleo

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

On the way down to the farm, who knows what I was browsing, but maybe it was Ashely's yummy meal, the subject of attempting paleo came up. Since finding out about CrossFit and the corresponding paleo diet, I've always been intrigued. Sure, I love to run and I generally eat healthy, but I also love to work hard. Lifting weights was one of my favorite aspects of spring training during my college days. Nothing makes me feel more confident than knowing I am strong.

Unfortunately, it's just not in our cards right now to pony up $150 or $200+  for the two of us to join a CrossFit gym, so again, I thought maybe we can try the diet together. And wouldn't you know it, after two previous failed attempts, Tony assented to it and helping me, with a reward for participation.

I'm now going into my third day of at least sort of paleo. I have not had any dairy, but have strayed a bit with carbs . . . like corn.

We'll have to see how this plays out!

Do you follow http://paleoplusone.com/?

It's a young couple who are paleo and raising a paleo kid... interesting stuff. I'm not sure I could commit fully, but I see the appeal of going "sorta paleo".

I've heard good things about this. I was vegetarian for a few years and while that worked very well for my body, my body has been craving meat with my current pregnancy. So I've been sticking to lean proteins and fish. I'd have a hard time giving up dairy but in the past, I had success with dairy free ice-cream and dairy free cream cheese. And I heard that daiya "cheese" is very similar to the real thing in taste and texture.

I have been thinking about paleo too. I did a diet very similar to the South Beach after my daughter and it worked well. If you get into the diet - I would love t here what works for you or any resources you find.

The Dave Ramsey endorsed company, EMeals, just started a Paleo meal plan: http://emeals.com/meal-plans/paleo/

I should research this too. I have no idea what the benefits are, I'm sure there's many!
My biggest challenge would be getting my hubby on board, for sure. Second to that, getting my picky picky kids to eat it.
Keep us posted!

Interesting! Cross fit is intriguing to Nate and I , too, but I can't stomach the cost right now. We eat 'sorta' gluten free --- Nate says he can tell a difference. But I just love pizza too much to go full throttle:)
