A Sledding We Will Go

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

I'm not sure if I mentioned it enough, but Tony is done with hockey for the year! I'm so glad to have him back. Even though he slept under the same roof, it's very different to have him home again every evening. We're having to readjust to dual parenting, which effects Isaac a bit too. There have been complaints of "Mama does this" or "not like that Daddy!", but I know given a bit of time and we'll be moving along just fine.

Saturday morning we woke up and I swear Tony was giddy. We had a whole day devoid of any plans and when he suggested we go sledding, we just latched on. To be honest, I didn't think too much of it, because Isaac is so hit or miss with slides and things that are just a bit out of his comfort zone. As we were dressing him in his snow pants I thought for sure we'd be back within a half an hour. I was worried he might have his first accident and Tony suggested putting him in a diaper, but again I thought "Nah, why bother, we won't be out there long enough."

Boy was I wrong.

Good old Knox Hill! Virtually in my backyard growing up. Knox Lumber no longer exists, but the name lives on.

He does not even know what fun he's going to have in a matter of minutes.

Making the trek.

Maiden voyage!

He approves!

Ready to go again. Although it was bright, that smile says it all!

Tony accidentally kicked up some snow the first time down, so Isaac covered his eyes the whole way down on the 2nd trip.

I was laughing hysterically!

Next, we found a little hill for just Isaac to manage himself.

Like I've said time and time again, we're going to keep our boys in Minnesota. Gotta hook 'em on what the state's got to offer!

Which is why we start them young.

Not sure if Ezra approves, but he wasn't upset, so I call it a win.

Daddy and his boys.

Next it was my turn, even though I was ill equipped for the fun, since I no longer have snow pants and was wearing two pairs of tights under my jeans, my hunting boots and an old A&F jacket that I wore in high school and is at least 10 years old.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't a bit scared. I hadn't gone sledding in years and I was petrified I'd somehow toss Isaac and scar him for life. Isaac's trust is just so complete.

My steering was way off but we made it!

I love how he's looking back like "Mama, what are you doing?"

No big hill for Ezra, but he was okay with that.

Because we were so close to my Mom's, my brother stopped over for a few runs down the hill.

Isaac loves his Uncle Levi, so he obviously didn't object.

Ezra started to get a little cold, but was still a happy baby.

I took him in the Jeep to warm up and he just sat in the front seat with me.

We grabbed a family picture thanks to my brother, just as my Mom and Dusty came by to check out the action.

My Mom just couldn't resist taking Isaac down and I'm sure they'll both treasure this picture for years to come.

We were there for almost 2 hours! I never expected we'd stay that long. The hill slowly but surely continued to become more and more busy, so I'm glad we got there when we did.

Probably the most surprising though is that Isaac didn't have an accident and his underwear were completely dry when we got home. He was completely zonked out when we got home at naptime.

I'm so glad we got to on Saturday while we had the chance, because today is supposed to be 50+* and the weather will continue this weekend.

One of my favoritest pictures of the day, because Levi got a true smile from Isaac.
My favoritest.

So cute! I was so upset the last time it snowed, Matt took Jack to walk the dog and when they came back in, Jack told me they were sledding. Apparently they had found a sled on the hill and went down a few times.

I know Matt would never leave me out of something on purpose, but it broke my heart to know that I didnt see his first time down a hill on a sled.

So, needless to say, I am glad you have photographic record of his first sled ride!!

This looks like so much fun Leah! And I want tips on how you pass the camera off to your hubs and brother and they take a decent picture! My husband is a terrible photographer!
