Head & Shoulder's Review & $50 Visa Giveaway

Sunday, November 20, 2011

Head & Shoulders had a campaign a few years back highlighting the concept that healthy hair began with a healthy scalp. Since it was a product I already used on occasion to correct scalp issues [cough::dandruff::cough::cough], I decided to use it more regularly.  For a good 12 months, I experienced the benefits of my healthy scalp begetting healthy hair. And then, one day, I changed to another product. Sure, I still picked up a bottle of Head & Shoulders periodically, as the need arose, but I never consistently used the product daily again.

That was until I was approached by BlogHer and Head & Shoulders to do a product review of their Eucalyptus Head & Shoulders Itchy Scalp Care shampoo and conditioner. I’ve never sprung for one of these reviews before, but knowing the change of seasons always does me in for itchy scalp and dandruff, I figured this was an ideal opportunity!

I mean Head & Shoulders eases dryness, itchiness, and sensitivity by combining the effectiveness of their HydraZinc formula to alleviate these conditions leaving your hair beautifully flake free, so clearly I was in. While we’ve been blessed with some amazing autumn weather, the change from super cool in the morning to warm in the afternoon has been driving my skin crazy, including my scalp. Just as readily as I grab lotion to sauce up my skin, it’s only logical for me to grab the Head & Shoulders for my scalp.

Using these products has been a Godsend! I already knew that I’d love how my hair felt and looked using them, but the main appeal was the relief from the need to scratch, not to mention the additional perk of dandruff control. Beyond leaving behind a clean scalp, the foundation for great looking hair, Head & Shoulders’s new collection goes one step further to excite and indulge your senses with fresh, naturally inspired fragrances including almond oil, eucalyptus and aloe vera. I love that they don’t smell clinical like so many medicated shampoos usually do!

Additionally, my hair has been a beast lately, as, unfortunately, I’m going through that dreaded phase at 3 months post partum where virtually every strand falls out of my head. It’s totally going to be baby bangs of 2009 all over again. The main culprit, of course, is a change in hormones. I’m so pleased that I’ve been able to use the Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care shampoo and conditioner through it all, with fantastic results on all fronts.

Oh, and don’t bring it up to Tony, but he’s been enjoying them too.

I totally never leave home without having applied lotion all over my body. I'm also switching my body wash to a more moisturizing version. Gotta keep that MN dry skin at bay!

I put lip balm on my lips before I go to bed.

I slather body butter all over after a shower because my skin gets so incredibly dry this time of year. I also try to put foot cream on in the mornings before I put socks on.

lindsayinnyc said...

I switch to heavier moisturizers (face) and lotions (body) in the winter. My skin just sucks them up!

Bekah said...

I amp up the moisturizing and run a humidifier in all our bedrooms, but to be honest I never even thought about doing so for my hair!

Sarah (Mrs. Ruffled Flats) said...

You know, I never do anything different in the winter besides put lotion on my hands and sometimes use chapstick. I already have pretty dry skin, however, so I probably should do more when the winter comes, but I usually just don't even think about it. If I notice any dryness in my scalp, I'm definitely switching to head and shoulders!

Ashley said...

I switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and I use a serum on my face at night.

I basically bathe in shea butter - especially on my hands, they get terribly dry in the winter.

Heidi said...

It sounds slightly gross, but straight vasaline is a staple during the colder months. It's perfect for lips and I'll wear white socks to bed with some inside if my feet are getting really dried out. Yucky! But it works!

mrsoz said...

I swear, I go through 10 times more lotion in winter. Wisconsin winters (like MN winters) can be brutal. I usually do a deep conditioning treatment on my hair at least once in winter.

I have to have a chapstick on me, otherwise I cannot leave the house. My lips get so dry that it's just unbearable.

Love this! Can't wait to try it!

I carry lip balm and lotion with my constantly.

As soon as you step out of the shower, before you grab a towel grab your moisterizer (I like baby oil). Applying it to damp skin locks in extra moisture. Then just pat dry with the towel!

I don't really do anything different in the winter in terms of my beauty routine, except use chapstick more often! But then again, I don't really follow much of a routine to begin with.

In the winter I put some vasoline or aquaphor on my hands and feet and cover them with socks and mittens before bed. This really helps with the dryness of the winter months!

Sarah said...

I start actually putting moisturizer on my face. It's so hot in the summer and fall that it ends up making my face oily when I sweat and I begin exfoliating more often because my skin dries out so much.
