Waiting on Baby Love

We did it. Last night, Tony, Gina, Isaac, a beautiful location and picture perfect weather conditions all aligned and we shot our maternity session. I almost feel like I should reiterate that so it's significance can be appreciated.

It feels like months in the making, but it was only postponed a week. We were going to shoot a sunrise session at Gina's favorite park, but then Minnesota blessed us with spring weather, finally resulting in spring blooms. Specifically white crabapple blooms and the hunt was on for the perfect location. The only problem was that sometimes the perfect location didn't line up with our timeline and Gina and Matt were shooting a wedding in Oklahoma City, OK over the weekend. And so, we crossed our fingers and hoped the blooms would still be available on Tuesday after they returned Monday evening. Except Gina and Matt didn't return, because they were stuck in OK, just as these storms were bearing down on them. Thankfully they were able to get out of dodge late Tuesday night! So with Gina safely back in the state of Minnesota, I called to check on the status of our lovely white blooms, only to hear that they were finished. Slightly crushed, I went to plan B: Pine Tree Apple Orchard in Dellwood. With bated breath I made the call to hear that not only did the timing work perfectly for them since they were hosting an event, but that to top it off their Honeycrisp trees were blooming!

I think I can speak for both Gina and myself that going into the session last night we were both over it. We both wanted to be excited, but it turned into the thing we had to get done instead of a fun little session with friends. It had become a hassle, to arrange, to prepare for and it just felt like it was going to actualize as a hassle as well when we arrived and were told we'd need a constant escort through the grounds. Except it was Victoria, the PTAO employee who guided us through the orchards, who really began to turn the evening around for us. She was genuine, sweet and led us to the most beautiful locations. She kept an eye on Isaac and Tony as they roamed, while still keeping up a conversation with Gina and I and she was the tipping point for our session. If it had been anyone else with us, I doubt our session would have been anything more than additional frustration.

Even with the sounds of Isaac screaming and crying lifting through the branches as Tony tried to keep him happy and occupied, Gina and I were laughing and playing off of each other like normal and the entire mood of the evening changed. The results of our session turned out better than I could have ever imagined. The sneaks below represent to me the stage of life we are in right now, bits of calm between the storm(s). Gina raises lifestyle portraiture to an art form. In every image that she has shot of me and my family, I know and will cherish the exact emotion of that moment. I'm sure it sounds like a broken record by now, but the extent of my indebtedness to Gina is pretty much unmeasurable and based on the expected longevity of our friendship I'm going to be feeling this way for a long time.

I know that I'm ridiculously hormonal, but I'm just blown away by the above and the evening we got to spend as a family and with Gina. Gina is just amazing at what she does, even when rocking out the workout clothes. ;) I love you so much girl. I just can't imagine my life without you. Thank you for capturing the fleeting time we have as a family of three so perfectly and for making me feel confident and beautiful.

*Tony, you deserve your own thank you as well. Thank you for taking care of Isaac last night, bribing him appropriately, for your willingness to go along with whatever crazy ideas Gina and I concoct and for looking like stud.
