Self-banned from the Kitchen

Thursday, March 31, 2011

No seriously. This is just getting out of hand.

Not only did I attempt to fry my phone, but last night in my first attempt at making this recipe from E-mealz, I did even more damage!

Spicy Thai Chicken
Wheat Noodles
Orange Slices
(2T RF creamy peanut butter, 2 T lite soy sauce, 1 ½ T brown sugar, 1 t crushed red pepper flakes)
½ lb chicken breast tenderloins
½ each red and yellow peppers, diced
½ bag frozen snow peas or sugar snap peas
¼ bunch green onions
( ¼ cup water)
½ box whole wheat thin spaghetti noodles

Wisk together first 4 ingredients, pour into gallon zip lock bag, reserving ¼ c for sauce. Add chicken and seal; marinate in refrigerator 8 hours. Sauté chicken and vegetables together for 5 minutes. Add water and reserved sauce, cook another 5-10 minutes or until chicken is done. Serve over wheat noodles.

You see, I had the cutting board on the stovetop, because we have .5 ft of countertop space, and when I turned the burner on to boil the water for the noodles . . . I turned the wrong one on.

As Tony said, I tattooed it. Real well.

To add insult to injury, instead of adding 1/4 Cup of water as the recipe calls for, I added 1 Cup. At least the chicken and vegetables were good, even if the sauce was reduced to virtually nothing.

I really want to impose a self-ban on the kitchen. Who knows what I'll try to ruin next?

Haha! One time I put what I thought was a cookie sheet into the oven to catch the drippings of a juicy lasagna. Turns out that cookie sheet was a plastic cafeteria tray - WHOOPS! Melted away to nothing. :)

Happens to the best of us!

hahaha! I've definitley done this with a cookie sheet...of course thankfully it was metal so melting occurred!

Hate those kitchen mishaps!

Uh oh! If its any consolation, between my husband and I we've melted a deep fryer and several spoons, cracked a Pampered Chef stone, and majorly discolored a couple pots. My sister also completed charred a wooden cutting board that my husband made her - all from not paying attention to which burner was on :S

Leah, step AWAY from the kitchen! ;) Hehe.

I think that might *technically* fall under the "branding" genre of body art ;)

That recipe sounds wonderful.

I think I've done that atleast once during each of my pregnancies.

We have very little kitchen space/counter as well and I'm afraid I don't even have pregnancy to blame for the times I've done stuff like this! I am always turning on the wrong burner and melting/burning something. :)

Oh dear, Leah! Did the same type of thing when I was pregnant. Forgot to put water in the crock when making a roast and forgot to put eggs in brownies before baking. Fun to laugh later, right?

Oh my word! That is SO something that I would do! So awful! I'm glad that it was a cutting board and you found it before it was totally melted or something... Could be a lot worse, but it wasn't.

And bummed about your meal being ruined too. Pregnant or not, I've done that 100 times. I did that when making garlic garlic dip from tastefully simple one time. I added 2 and 1/3 cup of mayo & sour cream instead of 1/3 cups or something... it was SO much and so awful after about the 3rd day.

Hopefully you won't have any mishaps this weekend!
