Interview Update

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

The interviews seemed to go very well yesterday! I can't tell you how much I appreciated knowing I had your support. I can't say that they were without small gaffes, but I managed to leave each interview knowing I had presented myself well.

I interviewed with two supervisors, two team leads and the head of the department. I had no idea that the last interview was with the head of the department as she had just transitioned into the position and her title wasn't updated internally! I wasn't prepared, but then again, if I had known ahead of time I may have just gotten more nervous.

She asked me to share the one thing she needed to know about me in closure of the interview and I nailed it. I point blank told her, "I'm really excited by this opportunity, even more so after speaking with you, and I know that I would do well in this position." She said that most people stare and the wall and are unable to give her an answer, so I clearly felt like a million bucks.

I'm probably way too optimistic, but she said that she really enjoyed our conversation and was sure that I would hear back from one of the supervisors. I have my HR follow up today, so hopefully I will learn more!

The position would be a great change for me and was a stretch to apply for, as the job posting desired candidates with a Master's degree. Thankfully I learned in my informational interview that my new hours could stay the same with the new position, so if I were selected I could stay with my new 7:30-4:00. There would also be a pay increase, almost what I was making 2 years ago at Target. Crazy how that puts everything in perspective.

I'm so glad to hear that it went well! I have always worked at very small companies--I think I would be super intimidated by your interview situation (so many people!).

PS- I forgot to say this before, but I am LOVING Isaac's hair!
