The Man of Many Faces

Friday, February 26, 2010

I hope that your Friday's are progressing better than mine! I also hope that this chubby cheeked face makes your heart smile as much as mine. :)

I'm alive.

This week has been so mundane, but thankfully has clipped right along. The work situation looks like it will be blowing up in about a day or so due to some poor practices . . . not looking forward to that.

Super big news:

1). Our house has a fan in the bathroom, for the first time ever. Meaning . . . our bathroom is fully operational right now. It is gorgeous and I never thought possible to say this, but completely worth the year long wait.

We've just got some trim work and accesorizing to do before I feel the reveal will do it justice.

It's just so beautiful Tony and I kept walking into it and sitting on the tub or toilet just to take in the view.

Tony said that if we move, we're taking the vanity with us. I wouldn't even blink an eye putting that in our contract. Tony's Dad crafted us a beautiful vanity and it would be a shame to leave it behind.

2). Drum roll please . . . . . Isaac's walking! Unfortunately our point and shoot is MIA, so we don't have readily accessible video to show off here. We did manage to get it on the real video camera though! He's growing more and more confident each day.

The look of excitement on his face is just precious, because you can just see how pleased with himself that he is! It's amazing. My little man is an actual little man and no longer my teeny baby.

We had a good weekend, even though we're not closer to the next than last! We worked hard, spent time with friends and family and even tried to get Isaac to sled for the first time . . . didn't go over very well though. :(

I can't wait until it's nice out again and we can get this little guy dirty! He just wants to roam!

Oddly enough the only TV Isaac is ever interested in watching is hockey.

His absolute favorite toy is his Gopher hockey stick. He loves to hit the soccer ball, football and various other toys with it.

And of course chew on it . . . he's definitely teething again, working on the top 4.

But he's still just the happiest baby ever.

Just to round out the week.

*I'm going to go into carb shock. I didn't have a lunch to bring today, so I ate our company provided Friday bagel and will subject myself to oatmeal for lunch. Bleh.

*The ref of my game Wednesday night was terrible. She kept referring to throw-ins as free throws. I wanted to slap her. Just for the record, I didn't. Just for the record, there are no free throws in soccer. Ever.

*Chris August is amazing. I listen to his music via myspace daily.

*Chris August coupled with the below makes me forget about the fact that we don't have money and the crappy ref mentioned above:
*Finally, this kid and this photo taken by his Daddy? They make everything right in my world:

Watiting for Momma to get home from soccer.

And with me last night. So much of my joy is wrapped up in his smile.

*I've got a 4 month old session tomorrow and Tony says "alls I gotta do is finish the tile." Hopefully both will be successful endeavors this weekend!

*I've gotten a little better with posting to my photography blog and have a new post up today!

Have a great weekend friends!

Bursting to Share

Thursday, February 18, 2010

In addition to being a not so good friend, I'm a terrible recipe follower. However, when it comes to cooking, as opposed to baking, I really think my inability to follow a recipe could be a good thing! We all know how it goes when baking though . . . there's a reason for the proportions of baking soda versus baking powder!

The last four recipes to be violated all originated from this blog: Gina's Weight Watcher's Recipes.

[I started the above sentence with two, then three and finally realized the grand total is four within the last three weeks.]

The best part is that I do believe they would taste even better if I actually followed the recipes, but was quite pleased with how they turned out regardless of my substitutions!

We have tried:
White Bean Chicken Chili

Roasted Cauliflower

Garlic Shrimp

Habenero Scallion Cilantro Rice

Amazing you guys, amazing. Now I'm not dieting, but always prefer to eat healthier and these dishes are not lacking in flavor!

Wedded Wednesday

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Wedded Wednesday is a collaboration
of married bloggers sharing their inspirations,

anecdotes, struggles and thoughts regarding
the amazing union of two separate people, as one.

So, you know why Tony and I weren't in a good place?

Because contrary to our communication is important stance we broke down.

"I'm fine." became my standard answer. "Nothing." seemed to be my only response to Tony's "What's wrong?"

And do you want to know why? Because I convinced myself that I could just bury the issues that were plaguing me and I just couldn't.

The first started January 30th. Yeah, I know. That was 3 1/2 weeks ago. It was the day I got to 2nd shoot with Gina, leaving Tony and my Dad to care for Isaac throughout the day/evening. I left before Tony and Isaac got out of bed, but Tony woke enough to ask me to defrost breast milk before leaving. I heard his request, but told him no. I explained that I didn't want to defrost a mass amount of breast milk, because whenever we've done that in the past we've always wasted at least a bottle.

That night I went to my Dad's to pick up Isaac, and wouldn't you know . . . Tony had defrosted a large amount and at least 5 ounces were left to spoil [you can't refreeze breast milk after thawing].

This hurt and infuriated me. Not only did he completely disregard what I said, but past that the expected result happened. Wasting breast milk is a direct loss of my time and effort, which is something that Tony and I have talked about before. Of course we spoke about it that evening, but somehow it was my fault and Tony ended up equally upset with me. There was no feeling of closure.

In addition to this, there seemed to be a build up of resentment due to Tony's current work situation. It's light. Really light. Which also means that money is light and tight. We haven't gotten a check from Tony's end in 2 1/2 weeks. This of course means stress. When his work is light, Tony has no where to go but home. Without fail though, it seemed that if I asked for his help around the house it was never completed. Now he wouldn't sit on his hands without action, but he'd complete what ever chore it was that he wanted to do, not the one I'd asked for help with . . . and then I stewed.

The wonderful Valentine's we got to enjoy only happened because we finally talked through these issues. It didn't end all hunky dory because Tony apologized for all of the things I thought he'd been doing wrong, but because we communicated.

I hope this can encourage someone today. :)

This past Saturday was amazing. Without doubt. Filled with friends and family. It doesn't get much better.

First, we woke up to beautiful frost fringed trees and the like:

Then we joined some friends to celebrate Kier and Nic's moving back to Minnesota, er, just visiting Minnesota. Kierstan is the best at organizing us, we're lucky they do visit as often as they do. :)

We partied it up over lunch at Kier's Mom's house:

She had the great observation that once upon a time we would have been really excited to take over her Mom's house without parents . . . and now it was no big deal:

Maia even got in on the fun, although you can see by the restraining hand that she loooved Isaac:

Isaac liked her right back:

Walking with Nancy Jo:

Kier's sister Maddie, wasn't the light beautiful? She's gorgeous:
I mean to be honest, aren't all of my friends gorgeous? They all begrudgingly let me take their pictures.

They were too busy laughing at old pictures from high school and earlier. Let's just say I'm glad I wasn't in girl scouts:

As you can see from this picture, Isaac's eye is slowing healing:

We had to leave a bit early due to Tony's reffing schedule. I wasn't going to go to the game, but when my brother heard that it was a good game he roped me into going.

Levi is so good with Isaac, I think they both equally had a blast.

Pointing at hockey:

"So biiiig" with Uncle Levi:

Yay for hockey!

The only bummer to the whole night being that I completely blew off my friend's birthday party. I'm still sorry Kerin. Your conversation hearts looked amazing! :(

Valentine's Day

Monday, February 15, 2010

I don't remember a Valentine's Day quite like this one! Yesterday morning, I woke up a bit earlier to shower and shave. I was really excited to take the time to myself to shave, as well, it's not a task I take on often in the winter. I had a new blade, shaving cream and time. Apparently what I didn't have was enough hot water. After 10 minutes my shower turned cold! Gah, then when I reached for my towel I realized Tony had used it the night before because it'd vanished.

I was determined to shake my mood though and it only took a second when I saw Isaac snuggled into Tony's arms in bed. They were just too sweet together.

We went to church with my brother, chatted with some newish friends and then went home for lunch. I was able to cardio dishwash while preparing Tony and Isaac some lunch, as he watched Isaac, before I whisked out the door for the cut-a-thon for Sarah. It was such a huge success you guys! They were completely full. It was just so moving to see the salon filled with friends and family. Not to mention how cool it was for all of the stylists to give up their talent and time on Valentine's Day.

When I came home, this is what I saw:

But in Isaac's hands Tony had nestled this gem:

Are you kidding me?:

Instant tears. And I swear to you he doesn't read my blog. It was perfect. Gosh, I'm such a sucker. I mean really, a handmade Valentine from my baby boy, Tony really couldn't have done any better!

I dressed him for the occassion:

And when he got up there was a lot of these:

Still sporting his bruise. Woot haircut! Hadn't been done since Nadia's wedding:

My littlest Valentine:

Happy belated Vday from us!
