Do you do it?

Friday, June 26, 2009

After letting it sit in my basement for the past month or so untouched, I finally opened up my box of sun screen today. I am very Caucasian you could say, with very fair skin, hosting a plethora of freckles and I should have started this years ago - but regardless, today marks the beginning of a new era, sun screen is now a part of my morning routine.

Last year I had to have 3 freckles removed for biopsy . . . you'd think I would have started doing this the day after.

I chose Neutrogena's face shield for virtually no reason, but that's what I'm going with.
Do you guys apply sun screen daily? If so, what kind and for how long? If not, what is stopping you?

I'm allergic to most sunscreens...ridiculous, right? So I use a daily face lotion for sensitive skin that has SPF 30 in it.

I put sunscreen on my face/neck every morning, and I use that exact one in the picture! I started using it when I got on Accutane (per my dermatologist), and have kept it up ever since. He "scared" me into using it religiously!

I use the Paula Beauty Choice line and I think it is fabulous! I've gotten several of my friends and sisters hooked on it. She has a great moisturizer with sunscreen in it that I use everyday: http://www.paulaschoice.com/product/skin-balancing-daily-mattifying-lotion-spf-15/moisturizers
and then if I'm going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time I use one of her extra sun care products:

All of her stuff is fantastic, very lightweight and silky and it doesn't irritate my skin or clog my poors which I like.

Absolutely, every day. I had two moles removed last winter and it definitely was a huge wake-up call for me.

I use Clinique SPF 30 on my face and neck and Coppertone Sport 50 on my body. I've heard good things about the Neutrogena stuff that you posted, but haven't tried it yet.

You bet I do! I'm a sunscreen Nazi! I usually use La Roche Posay Anthelios with mexoryl in the highest SPF I can find, but right now I'm using the one you are using because I have it left over from my trip. Then if I go out in the afternoon to run, I put on a sports sunscreen. Both the mexoryl and the helioplex in the Neutrogena products are supposed to be superior because they protect against UVA and UVB rays. There are also sunscreens in my regular moisturizers, but I would never leave home without putting on another sunscreen.

I have had two mole biopsies as well and now I go to the dermatologist every six months for a skin cancer screening... SCARY! This summer I've been wearing Clinique lotion with SPF that I got in the bonus pack for my face, and Eucerin SPF 30 for my body. I've also kept an eye out for clothing with UBF protection in it.

We have others who are counting on us now, and we have to be here for the long haul!

I always have clogged pores when I used it on my face so I normally use foundation with sunscreen. BUT since having the little one I haven't taken the time for foundation...just powder and go! I best figure something else out!

I use Oil of Olay for my face moisturizer and it has SPF 15 in it, so that's pretty much my daily routine. If I know I'll be in the sun all day, I'll use sunscreen on my shoulders and chest. I have fair skin and freckles and burn easily too so I should get better at this!

I make sure that any makeup I buy has sunscreen in it. Even my lotion.

I use tinted moisturizer with SPF in it as my foundation usually.

I started wearing it daily about 2 years ago. I wish I would have started even sooner than that! And don't forget your neck when applying!

Right now I am using some Lancome sunscreen that I got for free, but before that I was using Clinique.

I just recently bought Oil of Olay for a night cream, but it smells awful.

I have some SPF in my face moisturizer, but other than that I don't use sun screen on a regular basis because I don't actually go outside enough...sad. I know...but this will definitely change when we move into our own house, and I have a yard to hang-out in!

Anyways...I do use sunscreen when I know I will be outside for prolonged period, especially between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm because that is when the sun is at it's peak, and does the most damage. I've had a few really bad burns, and by dad has had some problems with skin cancer so I am not afraid to lather up before I spend a day in the sun.

I always wear sunscreen on my face, neck and ears. Aveeno daily moisturizer with SPF 15. My daily liquid foundation and translucent powder also have SPF in them.

I don't put sunscreen on my body daily - I wear a suit to work and never get outside during my work day... but weekends, I lather myself up with SPF 15 when I get dressed. If I know we are spending an extreme amount of time outside, or specifically doing something outside, I'll throw on something heavier - usually SPF 45. I burn quickly and I don't tan well, so I like to keep protected.

I got sun screen from my derm. It's La Roche Posay Anthelios and it is great! Its actually just a moisturizer with spf 15 but works far better for me than over the counter sunscreen, which I get a chemical burn from (yeah my allergies are THAT bad!). Its too expensive to wear everyday but I wear it every time I'll be out in the sun for any long time.

I use Oil of Olay with sunscreen in it on my face every morning. My face always burns first and worst because of whatever is in my face wash.

No I dont. Um, just because I guess lol.

I have very, very olive skin, and I was bad about this until a few years ago. I always thought "my skin is made for sun exposure!"

Lately, I have been using a powder with 15 SPF on my face, and under that I apply Coppertone face block during the summer months. I believe it is 30 SPF.

OH yes! Everyday, sometimes twice a day. I also use Neutrogena but a different type. I love it. I'm also VERY caucasian. {I'm bringing pasty back!} And I need all the sunscreen I can use!
This type looks great because I see the SPF 55. Let us know if you like it!

I use Mary Kay's Day Solution every morning- it has SPF 25. If I am outside for prolonged times, I use SPF 30.

for the ugly mug i use Aveeno Positively Radiant as a moisturizer because it's got SPF 30. no extra steps since i have to moisturize my face and as a person that's had really bad skin, this stuff is fantastic and not at all greasy. the bottle is tiny but it lasts a long time. i use Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 15 for arms. i tan well, but it's still important to not look like a leather couch by the time i'm 35...

I always wear sunscreen, for some of the same reasons that you do. I too have many many freckles, and I am not to fond of them, I think I look old. Also now I am starting to get dark spots ( pregnancy mask) I know these will fade after, but for now I am really self conscious of it.

I have just recently started using a Cetaphil moisturizer that contains sunscreen. I'm literally NEVER outside, but it makes me feel better to know that I kind of put forth the effort. I should really care more, because I'm so fair!

i apply a facial moisturizer that i apply every morning after a shower that has an spf in it. i have olive skin and only wear sunscreen if i know i will be in the sun for more than an hour. i rarely burn and when i do use sunscreen, i like banana boat. it smells so yummy and is not too greasy.

Le sigh. I don't use it everyday, though I should for many reasons including that I live in Texas, am outside a goodly amount, family history of skin cancer and blah, blah, blah. I just don't because I'm lazy. Oh and there is also that thing about that horrible burning sensation my skin gets as soon as I walk into the skin if I'm wearing it. I suppose I should consider that minor compared to skin cancer and possible death and all...

Eff, reading all these comments about ladies who use it regularly makes me want to whip mine out and start going it. I use(d) Cetaphil. It was recommended by my derm while I was on Accutane (the only time I was religious about wearing SPF) and I luff it.

Very clever, well written post. Once again, thank you for your honesty. :-)

Both my moisturizer and foundation have sunscreen in them already, so if I know I'm going to be out in the sun I try and remember to put it on the rest of my body, too.

Nope, I do not. Mostly because I forget ;)

I had a basal cell carinoma excision on my face a few months back. Now I use "Good Skin w/ spf 25" from Kohl's. I swear by this stuff. You can't smell it,and it's not greasy or sticky. And I've tried everything! Never used spf before my skin cancer scare.

I cheat, my makeup has spf =)

I don't use sun screen because I have an office job and am currently pasty white. :) But.. my make-up has spf.. so I figure I'm covered.

I use that exact sunscreen pictured, and I love it it doesnt make me feel greasy or cause my skin to break out, I am also very fair skinned and after having a few freckle/moles removed it kinda scared me into using it daily as part of my morning routine
