Bars {say it like a Minnesotan}

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Bars and hotdishes pretty much sum up Minnesotan cuisine, although I have a fair number of friends who pretty much negate that statement due to their exploration and talent in culinary prowess!

For Tony's party, I searched high and low online for the perfect and unexpected bar. I come from good bar making stock {my Mom actually had to bow out of our church's bar competition because she won too many years in a row!}, so I know the value of finding a good recipe.

Unfortunately, when it came down to it, all I did was find the recipes, I did not execute them. I mean, I screwed up a box cake mix, by omitting one of the 3 ingredients! Some day my mind will be returned to me, until then I'll just love on my baby boy without complaints. :)

That being said, my Mom was the one who made them, giving me the assist by deferring all compliments since I was the one who found the recipes! Hah!

You can forge a reputation with these bars ladies.

First, from Claire at Cooking is Medicine: Butterscotch BlondiesAnd secondly, from Amber's Delectable Delights: Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie Treats
Make them. You won't regret it. Especially if you eat one of each, and a piece of chocolate cake and a cheeseburger on the day before you have to return to work. I'm just saying, emotional eating doesn't get any more pure than that.

One more hour until I can go home.

I love this post! I've always wondered if you have a Minnesota accent. ;)

It took me until halfway through the post to understand that you were talking about cookie/brownie bars and not bars as in pubs.

So confusing. :)

I am 100% Minnesotan - bars are my absolute favorite! And we are definitely going to have to keep being friends if you have bar award winners in your lineage :) I'm definitely printing out these recipes...did I mention I love bars?

Holy goodness. I am starving, waiting for Jon to get home, and I can practically taste how good they are through the monitor. Suffice to say, I'll be making these SOON.

Oh my goodness. Those bars look so good!!! They might actually inspire me to bake. The problem is...I'm home alone this week, and it might be dangerous to have a house full of baked goods. Those pictures you posted are dangerous girl!

I like to experiment in the kitchen, but that doesn't mean I don't love a good Special K bar :) Maybe it was just my mom that made those??
