I just signed Tony and I up for this bad boy.
Do you know what this means you guys? It means I'm actually starting to think about having my body back. To shape and will and challenge into the performance producing body that it was {I'm not saying the results were stellar, but when I asked my body to do something it usually did and that's good enough for me}.
A month ago Tony and I were watching the NCAA Hockey Finals. As we were sitting on the couch I was completely overwhelmed with love for my game. The development of play between hockey and soccer are so similar that I literally teared up telling Tony that I can't wait to play again. Mark your calendars, I'll be taking the field again in July. I have to. My mind and body have to.
So on that note, I loop back to the beginning of this post lol. The marathon. I can't say it's been my life's goal to run a marathon, but ever since my first successful 5K I wanted to find out how much I could challenge my body. A marathon ought to about do it. :)
That being said, Tony and I do not have any expectations than to run a half marathon since I will not be able to devout the time necessary to adequately prepare {something to do with the due date of this child and a 19 week training program}. And while I say our expectation is to run 13.1 miles, we're going to see if we can't finish it out with a combo of walking and jogging the remainder. That sounds insane, I know, but Tony doesn't want us to fail the first marathon we ever registered for {even though that was the original plan lol}.
So I've got a date on October 4th!

I love it! You are awesome!
At first glance, in my reader, I thought you were saying that you were going to do this now. I'm a little slow today though so forgive me...
Oh and Put-In-Bay is in Ohio, just on the tip before Michigan. :)
You are totally crazy and I love it!!!
Wow good luck! Can you give me some of that motivation pleeeeaaaassseeee???? I have NONE!
That's awesome!! I'll be joining Julia at the Chicago marathon. Yours is a week before ours so I hope to hear great stories!
Yipyow! You have my admiration :) Perhaps I'll find some of the motivation you have and aim for Grandma's half next year.
Holy Crap, woman! When I said you'd be back at it in no time, I had no idea it would be this fast! Signing up while still pregnant! I love love love it!!
yay! so excited for you! I am signing up for the 10 mile, but hopefully I get in since that's a lotto drawing.
Chelsie - that's actually why we signed up for the full thing this year even though we're not sure how far we'll get.
We registered for the 10 mile lotto last year along with several friends and didn't know a single person that got in!
What a fun challenge! I can't wait to hear about your training! I'm running my first half in Oct., and my first full in April 2010!
Good for you! What a fun goal. And for the record, Im calling it now: I bet you'll have your body back in 6 weeks... 8 weeks tops! =)
Well, call me crazy, but I think running a half marathon just 19 short weeks after forcing a small human out of your nether regions is more commendable than just running a full marathon.
You're gonna kill it girl!!
Hmmmm...now re-reading my comment, that totally sounds like a dig at Julia or other marathoners. NOT AT ALL what I meant. I just think it's crazy cool that you'll be running a half that quickly after giving birth.
Note to self: Think before you speak.
Leslie - please do not hold me to that lol! Although I greatly appreciate your vote of confidence.
Kristal - You're absolutely hilarious girl!
wow good luck! it's too bad baby bless won't be six months during your training so you can't jog with him, will you just take turns running?
I've heard the TC one is killer!!!
Yup Rae, and luckily my Mom is extremely close to us for our long runs we'll just be able to drop him off for a quick visit!
Awesome! I'm going to do it too, because one of my goals for 2009 is to walk a half. I ran the Nashville half in 2005, and just really need to get back in shape. Training for something this big is the motivation that I need. Good luck!
wow that's awesome!!!!!!
I totally want to join you on this! Alas, I probably don't have the motivation....
Thanks for clarifying, Kristal...I was about to be all 'did you say JUST a full marathon?' My eyebrow might have raised a bit, but no worries. I think Leah's goal is pretty freaking commendable, too. Both a full and a half....no matter when you do them in life....are amazing accomplishments.
Leah~I have a feeling you might surprise yourself and may even run the entire 13.1 Or even crazier....what if you ran/walked the whole 26.2?? Either way, let's virtually train together and moan/groan about it all! Yippee!
I was supposed to be my first 5k this weekend but you know a miniscule tear to my achilles put that on hold for a few months I am so in awe of you and the fact you are thinking about running while still pregnant. Someday I'll be that motivated I hope :)
