On bedding . . .

Thursday, January 15, 2009

I've been struggling lately with bedding options. I've never been one for themes, characters or anything too cutesy and honestly the only true theme that we have a strong tie to is hockey. Just putting this out there, hockey is not well loved by the baby community, I swear it is actually shunned or blacklisted! See, I like clean simple designs, but the majority of bedding that I found fitting that bill was way too modern for us. So that let me to a lot of non decisions, the closest non decision being AJ's bedding, which even though we discussed would not be an issue if I duplicated . . . I just couldn't pull the trigger. So I've been scouring every baby bedding related site and was finally shocked to stumble across some bedding at gap! I have no idea if they just started offering bedding or if they've been offering it for years, but it was news to me!

It was instant like, but as with so many others, I could do without the cutesy turtles . . . everything else, from the clean blue and green lines to the wonderful topstitching? Love.

I love the box pleat on the crib skirt too!

Giggling turtles as it's called, isn't a fortune at $250, but it's also not a steal, especially not when with a few little tweaks I could love it fully. This of course let me to call my Mom to discuss our resources and wouldn't you know it, she took on the challenge fully!

So with the help of this pattern (please ignore the frilly flowers lol), with the inspiration of giggling turtles.

And these fun materials, with a few missing solids . . . Baby bless is going to end up with a fabulous bedding set, all made my his talented grandma!

I love that turtle bedding! And Gap Baby Home just opened in the fall sometime, so it's pretty new. I think it's awesome that your mom will make the baby bedding, it'll be way more meaningful that way. And I know what you mean about blacklisted baby themes- it is REALLY hard to find dinosaur bedding, especially when you want it semi gender neutral.

I hear you on the no frills. Although the turtles are cute, I am glad grandma bless will be able to make something that perfectly suits your style!

I like the no-frills thing, too. I like the turtles, but just on one item, not everything! I think it will be even more special that baby bless' g-ma will be making his bedding!

I love the turtles as well, and the other bedding sets I love for our little one are from babyGap as well.

I'm not into overly cutesy stuff either, but I love the turtle bedding! That is so great the bedding will be made, it makes it so special.

I'm not into the themed things either. Your friends bedding at AJ's blog... is darling.

However, I love the idea of grandma making it! How precious will that be??? And it will be what you want!

I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Love the Gap bedding too... minus the turtles.

All you need is one animal on the bedding and people will go crazy with it! Could imagine turtles EVERYWHERE!?!?! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

The bedding is going to look adorable - yay for moms who can sew!! I would possibly ask my mom to sew ours, but I think you've found me a great boy option already :)

Love, love, love!!! I can't wait to see the final product. My husband is convinced that when we have kids, we will have a monkey themed room...sigh. Enjoy your precious straight lines :)

I was going to totally suggest making it! My mom paid for ours but at $150 the only things we REALLY needed was the sheet and bed skirt and valance (The valance was even sold seperate!!!) WE'll use the quilt eventually but not for probably a while and the bumper.. well as soon as he rolls is going out! so... they're just a rip off.. I wish they sold parts seperately!

I don't know what I would've done if Kurt's mom hadn't made our bedding. It gave me so many choices and I could customize everything (a Type A person's dream). I know the nursery will be precious...post pictures soon!

Wow, we have very similar tastes when it comes to nurseries (not that we're thinkin' of kiddos anytime too soon) but if we were it'd def look like that.
