No, I didn't go on bedrest, but financially, as Tony so humorously put it, I've been put on early extended maternity leave.
After a few weeks of closed door meetings, I was finally called into the office . . . and the news isn't pretty. The writing on the wall was there and I thought that I was prepared, but I was informed today that I will experience a 50% pay cut, effective next week. I'd like to say that Tony and I can handle this cut . . . but we can't. We aren't even close.
My benefits stay the same, my hours are cut to 20 even though I'm salaried, so hopefully I'll be able to get a part-time job. I'm in the process of contacting my HR rep at Target, but I know that they are in a unspoken hiring freeze right now . . . I'm not panicking, but trying to be faithful.

I'm so sorry Leah, I'm praying for you.
Terrible! I will pray something comes to fruition. This has not been your month for the last few weeks!
My husband had to take a pay cut, too and he is not getting a Christmas bonus. *Sigh*
Leah - so sorry to hear this. This is one of my greatest fears over the next year. I'm praying for you.
Again, I'm so sorry Leah. What about a retail store (B&BW, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, etc.)? I know a lot of places are hiring for the holidays. I'll be praying for you and Tony.
I'm so sorry! This sucks, no other way to say it. Could you look for something else entirely since your hours are cut, or are there not many options?
I'm sorry to hear that but just remember, everything happens for a reason.
Im so sorry, be faithful, there is a way though this.
Well that just plain stinks! Stay faithful, sometimes things like this can bring the greatest opportunies.
I'm so sorry to hear this :( Virtual hugs won't matter much, but I'm sending them anyway. And sending best wishes for finding something else to occupy those other 20 hours!
My goodness, you are so resiliant. I'll be praying, and whatever God has up His sleeve, He will work things out for the best! Thank the Lord you still have insurance :)
Agh, Leah, I'm so sorry to hear this. What timing..
My only advice is to stay faithful [as much as that's hard to be!]. You know who provides and who's in control. As much as this sucks, it's all happening because He's allowing it.
I'll be praying for you guys.
So sorry to hear this Leah! I hope you find something quickly to fill the extra hours!!
So is the state of the world it seems right now! Keep your head up - it could always be worse - still having a job and benefits is something at least. Keep your head up and we're all here when you need to vent.
Goodness Leah. You've been through the wringer lately. I'm so sorry you guys are going through this right now.
Leah, I am crossing my fingers for you. This must be so stressful. Remember that this is temporary...
I'm so sorry you have to go through all this Leah. Lots of prayers for you and Tony!
I'm sorry to hear this...I know the stress of that from personal experience right now and I'm thinking of you!
so so sorry leah.... hopefully something positive will come out of this sooner rather than later.
Leah! I am so sorry to hear this!! I am praying for you and I believe that God will bless you for your faithfulness! He is faithful and he provides.
I would be panicking, though if I were in your shoes.
Praying for you!!!!
I'll just say ditto to all that everyone else has said.
I know it's hard to find the bright side in these situations, but at least it wasn't a 100% paycut like so many others have been facing.
I hope you find something soon that will bring you the happiness you (and Tony and baby) deserve.
LOVE the blog design. HATE to hear the sad news! I'll keep you guys in my prayers!
Yay to you for not panicking - you're a strong woman! Since your hours are cut in half hopefully you can find a decent part time job. I hope one of my favorite verses can bring you comfort - Romans 8:28, All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
I am so sorry to hear this, Leah. My husband and I are really struggling financially right now, so I know how hard it is to trust sometimes even though we're constantly hearing that He'll provide. But - I do believe it, and I believe it true for you guys also. We're praying for you!
Leah, that sucks!!!
I hope that the Target rep has some good news for you!
At least you still have full benefits...that's good, because lots of part time jobs won't give you benefits at all!
Praying for you!!!
Ick. Hang in there, and remember this is happening for a reason. I'll be thinking of you, too.
That's horrible news. Try your best not to stress about it. I hope you hear some good news very soon.
I know how hard/stressful this can be while pregnant! Will they let you group your days and do 2.5 days a week or do you have to do to do half days? You probably can get partial unemployment for being cut back so severely.
I'm so sorry, Leah. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully something better is in the works for you.
Oh, I'm so sorry! I will definitely be thinking of you guys.
So sorry to hear that-- I'm praying for you, Tony, and Baby Bless
I'm so so sorry, Leah! I will pray that you find something soon!
We are experiencing a similar situation in our family. It's hard...it's scary.
But...God is our Provider. He will meet your needs.
I pray the best for you.
Blessings,
Hilary
I am so sorry you have to go through this but I hope new doors open for you. My thoughts are with you this week Leah.
You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
I'm so sorry. I'm praying for you!
Sending prayers your way! Hopefully you'll find something new soon or at least have business pick up so you can get your hours back!
Leah, I'll be praying for you and that the Lord would amaze you in His faithfulness and provision as you make this transition.
It's times like this that it is nice to remember that the money, the things, all of it is Jesus', not ours. He will pull you through this challenging time.
Oh no, that's horrible! I'll be praying for you.
Oh Leah - I am SO very sorry, nothing like springing this on the holidays AND when you're pregnant with raging hormones (and the recent event which we won't mention). Sending you and Tony love and prayers from chilly Baltimore :):)
Is that even legal?!? I know it's illegal for companies to not hire or fire you because of pregnancy so this seems pretty borderline to me. I would check into it.
I'm so sorry you are going through this.
Just got caught up on my blog reading, so this is a little late.
What a tough end to the year, I'm so sorry, leah! You and Tony sound very focused, resilient and responsible, so I have no doubt you will manage through this just like you did with all the other challenges that came your way.
