I survived the weekend.

Tony's been gone since Friday and it's Monday and I'm alive. Now I'm not one of those scaredy-cats who can't be left alone without their husbands . . . but I do have a hard time sleeping in our house when Tony's gone.

First of all Allie is super protective of me when the man of the house is absent, she is always by my side and barks in response to every sound she hears. Even if it's one of the cats within a foot of her . . . not conducive to sleeping soundly.

Secondly, for some unknown reason Tony decided he should ingrain into my head how unsafe our house is! I think his motivation was replacing our windows, but he proceeded to lecture me for about 15 minutes last year that if anyone ever wanted to break into our house it would easily be accomplished through our windows. Sweet. That instills a lot of comfort doesn't it. We were redoing our doors at the time, so in response I told him we might as well just get cheapo locks. He looked at me idignantly and said we had to get Schlage, because "they're the best!" How's that for irony.

So whenever he leaves I fill the bed with new sleepmates:

1. Maglite flashlight
2. Hammer
3. Baseball bat
4. Allie

They are all arranged on his side of the bed.

Special this year, I actually took the shotgun, that is always under our bed, out of the case and laid it on the floor next to the bed, chamber side up. Now keep in mind, it was left unloaded, but I've never gone that extra step and actually laid it out. Second, I "couldn't find" the baseball bat {because I was too chicken to walk out to our detached garage to look for it!}, but scavenged in the basement and found some extra copper piping from our bathroom remodel.

I went to sleep at 6am this morning.

I'm so thankful my Mom let me sleep at her house Friday and Saturday night and that Tony will be returning from NoDak tonight . . . at 9:00 pm now because of my inconsiderate brother!

I have a strong suspicious this will be the first and last 3 day trip he takes, 2 days is long enough. :) The only good thing is the next hunting trip, we go on together, no need for me to be left alone.

I am the same way when my husband is gone. Although I have yet to set out any type of weapons to defend myself...if something were to ever happen. I usually revert back to my days as a child...turn on a night light, close our bedroom door and hide under the covers...pretty sure I wouldn't have a chance. But I do commend you for going down in your basement...I don't go in our basement when my husband is gone...no idea why can’t do this.

Girl, I can sooooo relate to you! When we first got married, I had no idea how hard it would be to sleep alone in a house [since Jim works 24 hour shifts]. I was absolutely terrified and locked my bedroom doors and made sure I had a nice weapon [a huge a$$ policeman type flashlight] right next to the bed. One night I left my cellphone downstairs and was too lazy to get it...I barely slept all night thinking tonight would be THE night someone would break in.

It took me forever to get used to this sort of situation...but even now I make sure my bedroom doors are closed and even have a "plan" should I hear someone.

I feel ya honey! I sleep with my 5 iron next to me when Brendan is gone!!

I love that you have a hammer and baseball bat in case anyone breaks in. I keep a knife in my nightstand drawer, and when the husband is gone for the night, I wedge it between my bed and the wall for easy access. Glad I'm not the only scaredy cat. ;)

Glad your hubby is home now :)

I sleep with the lights on when Justin has to work late.

Ha, love it. Love that you brought out the shotgun.

This is one HUGE plus of having pit bulls. Yes, my dogs are as sweet as can be. But not everyone knows that. And they are seriously scary when they bark. No one will mess with me or my dogs!!

You should invest in some pepper spray too! I used to be like that but have gotten better since J is gone 1-2 nights nearly every weekend. It's a lot better now that our apartment is on the second floor so I don't feel like someone is going to creep into the windows. When he is gone though, I try to fall asleep to the tv or a movie so I don't hear all the scary things that go bump in the night!

and I love your new background!

I feel the same way! I hate sleeping alone without the hubs! I'm glad he's back!

Sorry girls, he's actually not back yet! He will hopefully be home around 8:00 tonight. Hopefully. They were supposed to leave at 12:00, but haven't left yet!

Haha I'm glad we all take such precautions! I keep pepper spray, a knife, my cell phone and Jonesy in arm's reach when I'm home alone - you know how vicious Jonesy is :)

LOL! I was the same way in our old house, I would leave the TV on all night trying to "scare" away all the boogey men. That is why we got a security system in our new house, I needed it!!!

I'm usually ok when DH is gone but I gotta tell you, I still look behind the shower curtain from time to time just to check that there are no psychos stalking me!

Ha. I think one of the reasons I never want to live on my own is a paranoid fear of being killed by a stranger. I totally understand the bedside arsenal :)

Thatboy is going out of town next week, it'll be my first time alone in our current place. Makes me happy I have Thatdog to keep me company.

I totally do the same thing! And having a 2 story home for the 1st time in my life, I am even more paranoid!!!
I went with the super alarm with ADT since my 2 little dogs combined are 40 pounds soaking wet! The alarm is under my pillow and 911 is on speed dial :)

I'm the same way. Awful thoughts always seem to go through my head.

I'm the same way - well, minus the shotgun thing. I turn on our alarm system (which we never use unless I'm home alone). And I have Tiko. I'm glad Tony is home now and you can sleep soundly.

First, this is the funniest thing I have read in a long time!

Second, I can totally relate!!!!!! I always have the baseball bat right next to me at night when DH is gone!

I can relate, I'm a scaredy cat, admittedly. I always think of the "worst case scenarios" and form a plan hypothetically and literally in my head. Crazy. Glad you survived and nothing bad happened :) I love your new layout-it looks great!!

I'm the same way as you are. I get totally paranoid and nervous when Jared isn't at home during the night- which wasn't easy when he was working from 9 PM-6 AM for two months this last summer! Jared put a couple of his big hunting knifes in the nightstand for me...however, they didn't make me feel very safe because I kept thinking that it wouldn't take much for an intruder to take them from me.

Do you guys have a security system? When Jared and I buy a house that is the first thing I am going to have installed I think...no matter how safe the community is that we live in.

It drives me crazy when my husband is out of town! First of all, our dog won't do his business in a timely manner- I can't wait until his February trip when I've got two babies, snow on the ground and a pokey pup!

I was never nervous when I lived alone but since I've been married every little sound freaks me out.

That's funny that you sleep with all those things! I do the same thing when my hub leaves...except the dog is on the floor! I'm glad you survived!

Same here! EVERYTHING minus the shotgun! And a cell phone, white knuckle clutched in my hand. You know, in case "they" cut the phone cords. Hope you are getting some good rest now!
