Hollywood Casual?

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

I've been invited through work to a VIP party at the MOA's Grand Opening of their recently renovated theatres . . . and have been asked to show up in Hollywood Casual dress.

Can someone please explain to me Hollywood Casual? I'm pretty well versed in Business, Business Casual, Casual and on down to my pj's . . . but what the frick is Hollywood Casual?

Looking to Hollywood is even more confusing! I don't find any of these "Hollywood Casual" looks to be befitting a Grand Opening VIP party!

And to just be the cherry on top of my already frustrating evening 3 days away . . . I get to avoid a cocktail hour with my boss'! How late can one be to still sneak under fashionably late, taking into consideration I get paid to schmooze?

Don't mind me, I'm just a little flustered over here!

I think Hollywood Casual is like Amy Winehouse! ;)

Toss a towel on your head, grab a cup of Starbucks and a yoga mat, and you're good to go. Seriously?! I have no clue - good luck, girl!

Since you're still so tiny, I'd suggest wearing the darkest denim you have, coupled with sky high heels and a shimmery, fancy top. the dark denim will look professional yet casual and they exotic top will make it appear fancy-ish.

I had to choose, I would say if you've seen Britney in it, it's Hollywood Casual. You can't go wrong with that! ;)

well obviously you should show up with a towel on your head. duh leah.

no really...uhh i have no idea..im assuming that mean trendy dressy but not formal. i.e. no sequins missy.

Um, what? Hollywood casual? That expectation would stress me out.

Dark denim on the bottom, a chic and sophisticated top, then style it up with shoes and a bag. Hollywood casual is all about having a fabulous look that says, "Oh this? Like I tried..." Be sure to post what you decide on! GL!

Oh man, I have no idea! That might be the most ridiculous dress code I've ever heard of.

Good luck trying to figure that out!

That is a very good question! Please let me know what it is when you find out!

Oh my, that IS difficult. To me there's nothing really casual about Hollywood (those stars who are look more like slobs).

I automatically think of dark denim, a killer pair of heels w/ some flashy chandelier earrings.......and then I'm stuck. Maybe a pashmina around the neck a la Jessica Alba?

I think Jennifer Aniston seems to pull off that look pretty well. I would look at her for inspiration.

Brit has it down!

Seriously though, I hope Lisa (High Heels and Sweatshirts) chimes in! She's awesome and always knows how to dress!

Oh man that is confusing. I like the Brittney Spears look with the towel over your head. That would be funny.

like someone else said dark wash jeans, a sophisticated top, and accessories...cute shoes, a bag...something that looks like you just threw it on but looks oooh so together at the same time. Good luck with that one!

I would definitely go with some fabulous jeans, a scarf or pashmina of some kind, and as much blingy jewelry as you can find.

Why do event planners feel the need to get so "creative" with dress code? My boss was recently invited to a party with "City Chic Dress." I recommended pretty much the same thing to her.

I can't believe someone actually put "Hollywood Casual" on a large event invitation! I would say "Dressy Casual", "Semi-Casual", or "Resort Casual" would be more appropriate.
Anyway, go with Dark jeans, heels, and a cute top. Or to be super safe, a casual dress. I HATE being under dressed.

Having worked in a place that our dress code was "California Casual". It was pretty much anything goes...even flip flops. We had some attorneys coming in Tommy Bahama shirts, shorts and sandals. Others who wore jeans and a button down.
Whoever put that on your invite was an idiot!
I would rather err on the side of caution (since it is an event) and wear the dark jeans and a dressy top with heels (Thanks KG)

What a confusing invite! I swear, only so much practicality can (or should) be sacrificed for creativity and uniqueness.

Like everyone else, I guess I'd just go with very dark jeans, heels, and an elegant top. Good luck! Do try to enjoy yourself a little bit :)

I definitely think you should consider wearing the blanket over your head or whatever that chick is wearing in the third picture. That would make the outfit. The sunglasses also help pull it all together.

I like FC's suggestion--it's the pashima that's icing on the cake!

This is a little late, and not sure if it will help...but good luck!
